Err, Eros and Ergo

Dear fellows,

It is of great interest to etymologists to dig deeper the meanings of words, even their histories. Sad to say, some of them don’t know how to aptly apply what they knew. Most people ignore the usage of different words and there are even those who misinterpret them. Likewise also when we talk about the language of the translators of the King James Bible we have to resort to the right connotation or denotation of the word.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ has this to say of the three words:

1. Err –

Middle English, from Anglo-French errer, from Latin errare to wander, err; akin to Old English ierre wandering, perverse, Gothic airzeis deceived . See “error” entry
1archaic : stray2 a: to make a mistake b: to violate an accepted standard of conduct
2. Eros –

Greek Erōs, from erōs sexual love; akin to Greek erasthai to love, desire

3. Ergo –

Middle English, from Latin, from Old Latin, because of, from Old Latin *e rogo from the direction (of) . Hence, Therefore

Remember the saying, “To err is human, to forgive divine”? But biblically speaking, St. James says:

Do not err my beloved brethren. Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. (1:16 ; 5:19-20)

It’s very clear that beloved christians should not err from the truth because they will get astray and thereby may not obtain the perfection that is of God. Anyway, human beings are prone to errors but christians should observe proper conduct, the behavior that is outline by God in the Scripture of Truth.

Foremost of the causes of error is this erotic form of love – sexual love. Many believers of these end times fall because of choosing the love of this world rather than the love of God. The love of many as predicted by the Lord Jesus Christ will wax cold. Iniquity abounds already. Sexual love implies fleshly love not necessarily the filial love. This filial love if applied as per commandment of Christ the Lord will not bring into damnation. There shall fall also because they love their children or family more than the Lord Jesus Christ. Ergo, of a truth, many will reap by their own doings.

Nobody can question the fruit of what he or she had sown. God gives man the good that he ought to have but by his own high thoughts he might suffer loss if he will in effect exercise his own version of “love” the erratic form of love. Therefore, as a believers of God, we see to it that we don’t wander from the land of the wise for “The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.  Proverbs 21:16”
